Portobello is social with people and dogs at the shelter. He was good history with cats and dogs with proper introductions. He is getting more comfortable with the leash at foster. He thinks he is a lap dog and loves to receive affection. .

12-APR-25 - FOSTER - 04/12/25 09:50 Foster feedback: Portobello is almost fully potty trained, we are working on building his confidence not only around us but around others as well. He has gained a spot in our hearts as well as our animals.He now knows basic commands including heel with little to no corrections.

22-MAR-25 - FOSTER - 03/22/25 09:36 Foster Note: Portobello is doing great so far! He has been introduced to other dogs and cats, and does very well with them after proper introductions. He isn't the biggest fan of the leash but is getting better with following instruction and taking corrections. Portobello thinks he is a lap dog at times and loves to be around everyone and in their space! mw

04-MAR-25 - OBSERVED - 03/04/25 14:30 Portobello was barking at the front of the kennel when he saw citizens coming down the hallway. When they reached his kennel, he ran inside and continued barking. Once they passed, he came to the door barking until CR approached. He then laid down and loosened his posture then started jumping at the door when CR engaged with him. -CR

26-FEB-25 - INTERACT - 02/26/25 11:58 - Romp and play in front play yard; Portobello jumped frantically at the front of his run and was very difficult to leash. He pulled hard leading out of his kennel all the way out to the play yard, where he ran and played with loose and wiggly body language. He will sit for treats, but has a hard mouth and was very jumpy and rough. He was non-reactive through the fence with another dog. He pulled less going back to the kennel and was easy to release. - LB

10-FEB-25 - FOSTER - 02/10/25 10:06 Adventure tail: Portobello was a wonderful, sweet companion on our Adventure Tail! He was a perfect gentleman in the car, sitting quietly and gazing out the window. Although he prefers to be carried into the car, he is incredibly easy to carry, staying calm with no squirming. At the park, he showed off his excellent leash manners. While he occasionally lay down when he was unsure of a direction, a little coaxing and some treats always got him moving again. And speaking of treats, he takes them gently from your hand like the true gentleman he is. As he got more comfortable throughout the day, we hit the trail! He was fantastic, sniffing around and keeping a good pace without pulling. On the narrow trail, if we encountered another person, dog, or child, he would quietly lay down until they passed. No aggression—just pure calmness and trust, looking up at me until they passed and then getting right up to continue our walk. He is a gentle boy with a sweet disposition that deserves a loving home!

04-FEB-25 - INTERACT - 02/04/25 11:45 Portobello was standing at the gate when I went to take him out, he was jumping frantically as I tried to leash him so I gave him a treat as a distraction and leashed him while he ate it. I opened the kennel door and he came rushing out of it and was jumping in excitement. He pulled me at first in the direction of the parking lot but once we got there he stopped pulling. He appeared anxious and nervous during our walk in the parking lot and was heavy panting and would stop in his tracks often not wanting to continue. When he would stop I was able to put some leash pressure and give encouragment and he started walking again. He never stopped looking around anxiously but his tail was also wagging and he relaxed when he was getting attention. We stopped and he sat for a treat and took it gently. We walked back to his kennel and walked back in where I unleashed as he ate a treat. He started whining briefly and was pacing and panting after I took his leash off but stopped when given another treat-JEH

12-JAN-25 - INTERACT - 01/06/25 Per volunteer: Portobello ran to the door to come out. I knelt down and leashed him. He walked with a mild pull, bouncing playfully on the way to the yard. He did a quick zoomie; then brought me a toy to play fetch. We played fetch and tug; then I played on the ground with him. He also rolled over for tummy rubs and licked my face. He did well sitting for a treat and on recall. He kept running to me for attention when attempting "stay". He played with toys in the garden, played on the waterfall and in the bushes before sitting with me getting pets. We took a long walk in the lot; then back to his kennel.

02-JAN-25 - INTERACT - 12/30/24 Per volunteer: Portobello was excited to come out; so I gave him a treat and knelt for a moment first. He quickly calmed and stood on all fours to be leashed. He walked with a mild pull, ignoring dogs. He was chasing toys, climbing ramps and coming up often for pets. Each time I knelt down, he ran over to cuddle up next to me for pets and to lick my face. He had the zoomies when first entering the garden; then came up with a tennis ball to play. After playing fetch, we worked on training. He sat well, did a successful “down” a couple times and was able to hold a stay longer. He’s very good at recall; as he always enjoys being close. After sitting and giving him affection, we took a walk in the lot and returned easily to his kennel.

18-DEC-24 - INTERACT - 12/16/24 Per volunteer: Portobello was bouncing from paw to paw, waiting to be leashed. He exited well, walking with a mild pull to the play yard, ignoring dogs. He briefly explored; then came up for pets and gently took a treat. We played fetch with squeaky toys, with Portobello giving them up well. He focused well during training, beginning to learn shake and doing better at stay. We went to the garden, where he ran and played before coming up for a pet and butt scratches. We played a little fetch with toys; then we sat beside each other on a rock as I gave him pets and treats. He walked well through the lot and back to his kennel.

Pet profiles are updated every thirty minutes with the pet's status updated every fifteen minutes, seven days a week. Watch the ADOPT Tutorial Video for navigation help.

Certain pets in the care of Pet Resources and/or their records may not be available for adoption or release pending a determination of ownership rights and/or legal consent, such as during stray hold times or active abuse investigations. Please be advised that the County will maintain copies of all medical records produced while the pet was in the County’s care and custody and may release them to the public, if requested.
