09-MAY-25 - Behavior - 05/09/25 15:17 Dooly was easily leashed and walk with little to no pull to and from the yard. He maintained loose posture throughout the interaction. Dooly solicited attention from CR and GB, an unfamiliar staff member, while in the yard. He climbed on the bench and in staffs lap and allowed petting all over. He was not interested in toys. He took soft treats if they were right in front of him and sat for them. CR stepped out of the yard for a few seconds and Dooly followed along the fence, constantly jumping up and could not be distracted by GB in the yard. Upon return, Dooly calmed down. He followed two volunteers passing the yard with similar behavior. Dooly was easily returned to the kennel. -CR/GB

07-MAY-25 - Behavior - 05/07/25 15:57 Improving on leashing and engaging. Dooly ran to gate, sat, and pawed gate softly while he waited to be leashed, then walked out with a slight tug. Closer to yards, Dooly pulled more on leash, so DJ fitted to field harness and Dooly's pulling lessened as we walked to the scent garden. In the garden, Dooly zoomed around to explore and walked through the pond twice. Dooly checked in with DJ throughout time in the garden, ending with running over and leaning heavily into petting. Walking back, again used field harness to lessen pull. Once in his row of kennels, Dooly walked loosely next to DJ, seeking attention and ignoring dogs he passed. Easily walked into kennel and removed leash, gave treat once kennel was locked. As DJ walked away, Dooly started whining and crying. Settled within a few minutes with DJ out of sight. -DJ

05-MAY-25 - Behavior - 05/05/25 15:14 Dooly came to outside of kennel when he heard the gate being unlocked, was easy to leash at gate and walked out with tail up and wagging. Walked easily to yard, checked back with DJ the one time he tugged leash. Once in yard he zoomed around but then quickly focused on gate. Came to DJ when called by name, accepted a quick pet before going back to gate and soon after hopped over short gate into catch pen. DJ then moved Dooly into next yard with all high fences, Dooly again ran around but focused on gate for a few minutes, jumping 4 feet off ground at times. Dooly came when called and DJ extended leash and kept hold for pet to explore shaded area of yard. Dooly came over to DJ and accepted pets and then walked closer to DJ when petting stopped and nudged and licked hand. Dooly accepted pets from head to tail. Dooly tried to greet a female dog in adjacent yard, but other dog did not want to greet. DJ then took Dooly for a walk around the lot, where he walked with a relaxed gait, no pulling. Saw a cat on walk and Dooly tried to approach but was easily redirected by DJ. Walking back to kennel, Dooly slightly resistent to return, but walked with slight leash pressure and DJ having to take a step into his kennel. Removed leash easily and Dooly came back to gate once closed for more pets. -DJ

03-MAY-25 - Behavior - 05/03/25 15:34 JS was able to leash Dooly in the kennel. JS stepped in the kennel and with some coaxing Dooly approached JS and allowed him to leash. JS took him to a yard where he allowed some petting, Dooly became uncomfortable with any petting on the back and lower back. JS had Dooly interact with another dog. Dooly allowed handling and petting in areas of the neck and face without being uncomfortable. Dooly still showing under socialized behaviors. No issues returning.

01-MAY-25 - Behavior - 05/01/25 14:55 Pet again reluctant to come out, initially on inside of kennel but stood up when noticed DJ at outside gate. Noticed biscuit treat already in kennel, so DJ tossed in soft meaty treats and walked away. Upon return a few minutes later, treats gone. DJ opened gate, at which pet ducked head out from divider but didn't approach until DJ held gate open wider. Pet tried to dart past but DJ body blocked and tried to leash. Pet backed up but came back again with gate held open and slowly drawing near DJ, who was able to leash after a few attempts of head ducks, but no other poor behaviors towards the leash. Once leash was on, pet walked out and as far away from the kennels as he could get. In play yard, DJ kept hold of extended leash as pet sniffed. Pet made no move to approach DJ nor had any interest in toys. DJ sat at bench, gave light tug to leash and pet walked over and sniffed leg, then stood next to DJ facing away. Pet tolerated soft pets on neck and shoulders, but made no move to engage or lean into touch. Pet walked calmly on leash, again avoiding kennels upon return. Used clip to slip to remove leash. -DJ

30-APR-25 - Behavior - 04/30/25 15:34 Dooly was sitting by the inside kennel gate and would not come out until CR opened the outside door. He came out then peed for about 2 minutes nonstop. Dooly kept backing out of the leash but would come forward again when the gate was opened wide. He was leashed after a couple attempts and walked to the yard without issue. In the yard, he paced and would not approach staff. After about 3 minutes, Dooly started jumping up the fence. He was avoidant of approach and began whining. CR was able to get close enough to step on the leash by going slow with minimal body posture. He tried to flee and began growling when CR reached for the leash but he stopped when he felt the leash pressure. CR walked around the yard a little with him but he would become more nervous with CR following behind him. Clip to slip was attached and he was returned to the kennel without issue. Dooly maintained tense posture, ears back, and tucked tail throughout the interaction. -CR
