13-MAY-25 - Interact - 05/13/25 Staff was able to leash Turkey easily in his kennel and he walked well past the neighboring kennels. Staff was able to give Turkey a bath which he was hesitate with. Occasionally Turkeys body posture became tense but staff would reassure him with pets and he would wag his tail and his posture became loose. Turkey sat for treats after and accepted pets all over. He walked well when returning to his kennel and he was easily unleashed. CS

11-MAY-25 - Interact - 05/07/25 Turkey greeted staff at the kennel door with a loose posture. Staff provided treats to Turkey during leashing which went well, and Turkey paid no attention to the neighboring dogs when walking by their kennels. Once in the yard Turkey immediately solicited attention from both staff members and allowed them to pet him all over. He took treats nicely and played with a few toys that were in the yard. Turkey dipped his paws in the pool as well to cool down. When returning back to his kennel he walked well and was easily unleashed. CS

10-MAY-25 - Interact - 05/10/25 10:00 Ataff attempted to pull turkey from the inside of the kennel. He bit at the leash like a rope toy. Staff then moved him to the outside of the kennel and attempted to leash again turkey mouthed the leash. Turkey ignored the offered treat. Staff shut the kennel door. -MB

09-MAY-25 - Interact - 5/8/25 Per volunteer: Turkey bit the leash and tugged on it while leashing - had to drop a treat to distract him. He pulled on the leash on the way to the garden. Once in the garden, he didn't show much interest in toys or in sniffing. We played find-the-treat and I dropped treat pieces while walking, in order to get him to walk a few laps around the garden. Then he settled down and sat for pets. He was gentle on the leash on the way back to the kennel.

29-APR-25 - Interact - 04/28/25 Per volunteer: Bit the leash and tugged on it at first, but was able to get him leashed by dropping a treat. He pulled hard on the leash on the way to the garden. He chased a couple of toys in the garden but didn't return them. He mostly stayed near the water dish and leaned in for pets. We went for a walk in the parking lot, and he was easy on the leash in the lot.

26-APR-25 - Foster - 04/26/25 10:01 Foster feedback: The 2 big areas we're working on are leash reactivity when he sees another dog and chewing/eating things around the house. It turns out he is very stealth at getting on countertops to reach food and has chewed through a couple of kids toys when unsupervised. Aside from those issues, I can't stress how much this guy is the sweetest. He is so polite and quiet. He smiles in his sleep. He hasn't barked once. He loves to rotate through his toys--enjoying balls, stuffies and bones equally. He has a very calm demeanor around people and is not bothered by a family get together over the holidays or a 5-kid playdate. He enjoys pets and cuddles, the occasional play session, short to medium walks and is very treat motivated so will be easy to train. We're working on Place, Sit and Leave It. He takes direction well on walks as long as there are no other dogs around. We've had 3 cars pull over just to give compliments on what a beautiful and sweet dog he is!

15-APR-25 - Foster - 04/15/25 17:17 Foster Note: Turkey has been awesome since we met him. We gave him a brief walk in the lot before heading home and he relaxed and laid down the whole drive. Introductions with our kids (ages 4 and 5) went smoothly. He allowed pets and gave them gentle, friendly sniffs. His favorite pastime so far seems to be napping, in which he sometimes makes adorable pig-like noises. He is easy and patient to leash. He seems to be just as happy with a short walk as a longer walk. He doesn't pull on the leash and it only takes minor corrections to get his attention. As a low-rider, he has the cutest trot! There have been no problems with separation —he is very relaxed and content to curl up on his bed as you come and go. After an outside bath with the hose, he got the zoomies and enjoyed rolling in the towel. I removed it when he started to bite at it. Overall, I cannot imagine a more chill dog that would make a perfect companion for anyone, especially someone who is looking for a low-key dog to cuddle and take it easy with. mw

11-APR-25 - Note - 04/11/25 11:37 Turkey is a very good boy in the office; he greets everyone that walks by, hasn't had any accidents and takes treats easily. He walks well on the leash and has been friendly with other dogs and curious about cats. He is low key and doesn't jump on people. Turkey doesn't bark much. He loves benebones and treats and likes to lay by my feet while I work.

02-APR-25 - Note - 04/02/25 15:39 Turkey has been spending time in the office with me and he is a perfect gentleman. He does not jump up on people but loves to come to the gate door and say hi to all who pass by. Turkey is treat motivated, but he is still learning commands like sit. He appears to be housebroken as he hasn't had any accidents in the office. While we don't know how Turkey is around cats in a home, he is very curious about the cats in our offices and walks by to say hello. He is friendly with other dogs he meets. Turkey pulls a little on leash when walking.

31-MAR-25 - Interact - 02/26/25 13:39 Needed to move animal from inside kennel to outside kennel for cleaning. Upon approach to the door, animal was jumping up and down. When attempting to leash, animal bit the leash and one of the handler's fingers got caught in animal's mouth. Skin was broken and moderate amount of bleeding occurred. During additional attempts to leash animal continued to bite and tug on the leash as if were a toy. Using a treat to bring the animal low to the ground, handler was able to leash and move the animal. -KR

31-MAR-25 - Interact - 03/31/25 16:18 Turkey trotted over to the kennel door when staff approached. Due to his jumping, leashing can be somewhat challenging. Turkey walked to the yard with minimal pulling. Once in the yard, he found a treat left behind from a previous interaction and ate it. After prancing around for a bit, Turkey stayed next to staff. He allowed petting and accepted treats. He can be rough when taking treats, but will be gentler with some prompting commands and slower presentation. He showed almost no interest in other dogs. He was released to his kennel without issues. -KR-
