05-SEP-25 - Interact - 9/4/25 Per volunteer: Hank was easy to leash and walk to the yard. He ran with toys on his own and played fetch. He enjoyed splashing in the pool, sometimes taking a toy in with him to dunk and play. He did very well on training and was gentle with treats. He enjoyed getting pets all over; especially scratching behind his ears. He ran and played in the garden; again chasing and taking toys into the garden pool on his own to play. He walked well beside me back to his kennel.

30-AUG-25 - Interact - 08/30/25 17:58 Hank greeted staff at kennel with a loose body and wagging tail. He stood at the gate and extended his head into the slip lead, walking to the yard with a moderate to heavy pull, occasionally circling back in a push/pull. Once in the yard, Hank played actively with any toy he was presented with, happily chewing on soft toys, tugging on ropes, or chasing after frisbees. He LOVES water and spent much of the interact jumping in and out of the splash pool, rubbing himself into the turf, or chasing after toys. Hank walked into the loop of the slip lead when held out by staff at play yard gate, walking back to his kennel with a moderate, steady pull. Once in his kennel, he stood and allowed unleashing before running further into kennel. -GB

20-AUG-25 - Interact - 8/18/25 Per volunteer: Hank leashed easily, walking with a mild pull to the yard, ignoring dogs. He enjoyed chasing and playing fetch with squeaky toys and splashing in the pool. He responded well during training; doing sit and down in the pool and on the ramp. He took treats gently and was treat motivated. He was running around the garden and playing with toys in the garden pool. He was sitting by me getting pets all over when we took breaks from playing. He walked well back to his kennel.

18-AUG-25 - Interact - 08/18/25 17:14 Hank was easily leashed and walked to vet services for a workup exam. Hank allowed petting and initial restraint from technician. However, when DVM lightly touched Hank's hind hock, he bucked, kicked, loudly vocalized and thrashed. After, Hank would not let tech behind him and would move his body so he was facing tech at all times. Supervisor leash wrapped him and restrained him while DVM held his rear and tech was able to draw blood, however Hank needs two people for restraint. Hank was given pets and offered treats, including a piece of cheese that he did not take. Hank was returned to his kennel with no issues after. JER

12-AUG-25 - Note - 08/12/25 15:44 Hi I'm Hank, I am being surrendered due to being hard to handle for the older member of the family to handle and my main caregiver is going into the military. I am housetrained and I can walk on a leash, although I like to pull so it's recommended that I have a harness, and I get nervous for car rides. I can be nervous of new people and I am loyal to my people. I am good with children of varying ages. I can be a little stubborn but I kow the commands "sit" and "shake." I have a lot of energy and really like to play and run around, I also like to spend my time sleeping. I can be a little picky with treats but I LOVE doggy icecream and pupcups and peanut butter.

02-JAN-25 - Interact - 12/31/24 Per volunteer: Chess nudged his head into the leash. He walked with a slight pull to the play yard. He immediately picked up a squeaky toy. He leaned into me often to be pet. He sat for treats. Chess was very anxious going back to the kennel and pulled heavily towards barking dogs. He was easy to unleash.

10-DEC-24 - Interact - 12/07/24 Per volunteer: Chess was a lot to handle on the leash. He seemed to know the sit command. He enjoyed chasing the tennis ball I was throwing in the scent garden. He played with stuff toys as well, running with them and shaking his head. He also jumped into the pond a few times. He did show a little fixation on the dogs in the other play area by whining by the fence.

01-NOV-24 - Interact - 11/01/24 17:20 Per volunteer: Chess was easy to leash and he walked with a medium pull, showing no reactivity toward the other dogs. He chased after the toys, but only returned with a couple. He allowed for pets from head to tail and would jump about (but not on) me excitedly. In the garden, Chess splashed about in the pool with his front legs. He explored the perimeter of the garden. Back in the yard, Chess watched and barked at a dog in a neighboring yard. After that, he picked up a toy and carried it around. He was easy to return to his kennel.

24-OCT-24 - Interact - 10/24/24 12:31 Chess was able to be brought to the yard by a volunteer for his playgroup assessment. When another dog entered the catch pen, Chess was muzzle punching the fence and barking. He was able to be interrupted but would continue when not being distracted. Chess was sent into the catch pen to leave and continued being reactive. The volunteer had to pull him away with the leash. He was able to be returned to the kennel by a volunteer.

21-OCT-24 - Interact - 10/18/24 Per volunteer: He listens extremely well. Chess knows how to sit and give paw. He was very playful. He whined a bit when I left the play yard for a moment. He was barking when I approached the kennel, and it took me a minute to slip leash him. He was not reactive to other dogs. He pulls slightly on the leash. He will run after toys but not return them and stays close for pets and attention.
