Animal comment
Ace hasn’t given staff any issues with handling. He is treat motivated and he also knows “sit” and “wait”. He does seek for attention from people when out in the yard. He enjoys baths which relaxes him. Ace is dog tolerant at the shelter. .

08-MAY-25 - Foster - 05/08/25 14:31 Adventure Tail: This affectionate boy thrives on companionship and wants nothing more than to be by your side. He’s incredibly cuddly and always ready for snuggles. Ace also loves to play—tennis balls and toys are his favorites—and he’s happiest when he’s running around the yard or rolling in the grass. His joyful personality and loving nature make him the perfect companion for someone looking for a loyal, playful, and affectionate pup.

03-MAY-25 - Interact - 05/02/25 Ace was high pitched barking and bouncing at his kennel as staff walked up. Staff walked in the kennel and waiting until he was sitting to leash him. Ace sligthly pulled walking through the kennels. In the yard, he would chase the toy but often didn't bring it back. Staff was able to pick the toy up and throw it again which he ran after. He sat next to staff and allowed petting all over. Staff noted that the front of his chest was soaked with salvia. Ace came into the office and played by himself with some toys before quietly laying down. Ace was easy to return to the kennel and take the leash off of. -TB

01-MAY-25 - Interact - 4/30/25 Per volunteer: Ace was frantically jumping side to side in his kennel. He sat and allowed leashing for a treat. He had a solid pull to the yard but instantly relaxed in the yard. Ace solicited pets all over with a lean. He sat and gave his paw nicely. He was still energetic after our time so we went for a walk through the parking lot. He got excited seeing a few cats but didn't pull towards them. We returned to his kennel with no problems.

30-APR-25 - Interact - 04/30/25 Ace was jumping at the kennel door when staff first approached his kennel. Waiting a few seconds before leashing they offered him a treat once he was calm, and they were able to leash him easily. Ace walked with a slight pull while passing the other kennels but ignored dogs as they passed by. Once in the yard Ace solicited attention and allowed petting all over. He sat for treats and took them nicely. When returning him to his kennel he walked well and was easily unleashed. CS

24-APR-25 - Interact - 04/24/25 15:08 Per volunteer: He was easy to leash in the kennel and walk to the play yard, without being reactive to the other dogs. In the yard he was playful, but gentle. He ate treats, taking them gently, and knows how to sit and give paw on command. When resting, he laid under me and solicited affection. He enjoyed climbing on the playhouse and exploring the pool, jumping in to cool down.

22-APR-25 - Interact - 04/21/25 Per volunteer: Ace pulled on the leash at first, but relaxed after getting out of the kennel area and away from the other dogs. In the garden, he ran around at top speed, jumped into the pond several times. He chased toys and squeaked them but didn't return them. When a volunteer came up to the other side of the fence, he barked and was nervous of their approach. He walked back to the kennel without pulling on the leash.

14-APR-25 - Foster - 04/14/25 12:15 Foster note: Ace has been settling in. He’s definitely going to be a wonderful dog with some patience and love. He can overly excited and this presents with mouthing and humping but he responds to no and stops immediately. Ace met the family dog last night whom he spent a few hours with outside and they got along great (larger male). He is great with all people and did great with meeting some older children. He took a shower (climbed into the shower and sat under the running water), and Is fine with all handling from lifting, touching paws, rolling, standing over.

10-APR-25 - Interact - 04/08/25 Ace was standing on his kennel door when staff approached, barking hoarsely. As staff was undoing the lock, he started to bounce around and try to mouth at staff's hand. Staff was able to easily able to open the kennel door and put a slip leash over his head. He pulled a bit, walking through the kennel. Once in the yard, he ran around and sniffed everywhere. After ten minutes, staff stood at one end of the yard and called him over. Ace would run over to the staff. Staff would walk to the other end and call him back over. Staff started asking Ace to sit after he would come over. Ace picked it up very quickly, and after ten repetitions, the staff didn't have to give verbal cues. Ace then started walking with staff at their side and continued to do so for two minutes. When staff would stop, Ace would start jumping and trying to hump staff, but settled right back down following at their side when they would walk. In the office, Ace did pee a few times. He did very well with the puzzle toys. After an hour, he relaxed and lay down. Ace did pee multiple times in the office. When left alone, Ace did knock the gate down and get loose. Staff had Ace sit before putting the collar back on. He walked through the kennels with a slight pull but walked well back into the kennel and allowed staff to take the leash off. -TB

10-APR-25 - Interact - 04/09/25 Per volunteer: Ace was excited when I approached but easy to leash. He gave a mild pull to and from the yard. He is very treat and praise motivated, wiggly and friendly throughout our time together. We worked on "down" and he was successful when lured with a treat.
