Animal comment
Orlando is social with people, but he can get nervous and is dog tolerant at the shelter. Orlando has accepted pets from staff. He loves treats and takes them gently. .

13-MAY-25 - Behavior - 05/13/25 16:00 Orlando was easy to leash and walked with little pull. He had loose posture throughout the interaction. In the yard, he sniffed around and approached CR multiple times for attention. He stood calmly for pets all over. He didn't show much interested in toys and did not take a treat. After a short time in the yard, he kept approaching the fence. He walked back with a mild pull and was unleashed with clip to slip without issue. -CR

12-MAY-25 - Interact - 05/12/25 16:02 - Orlando greeted staff at the kennel door with a loose body and wagging tail. When staff went to leash him he tried to push his head through the door but staff was able to stop him and get a leash on him with no further issues. He walked with a mild pull on the leash to the AD play yard. He wasn't reactive to the dogs that he passed. In the yard he mostly kept to himself, but was interested in what was going on in the yard next to him. He eventually came over to staff member and allowed staff to pet him all over for a minute and then went back to exploring the yard. He came over to the staff a few more times for a couple of quick pets and went back to exploring the yard. He walked with a mild pull on the leash back to his kennel and staff used clip to slip to return him to his kennel. BP

07-MAY-25 - Interact - 05/07/25 13:50 - Staff moved Orlando into a new kennel. Orlando greeted staff at kennel with loose body and wagging tail, barking off and on. Once offered leash Orlando lowered head and put muzzle to gate corner ready to get out. Once out Orlando had a medium to hard pull towards kennels off and on. Walked to new kennel great and then was easy to unleash with clip to slip. MC

06-MAY-25 - Interact - 05/06/25 Per volunteer: Orlando was easy to leash and walked well to the play yard. He had no interest in the other dogs along the way. Once in the play yard, he was curious about dogs in the other yards and activity in the parking area. He was hard to redirect with no interest in toys or treats. He did not engage with the volunteer. Orlando did respond to sit and shake commands and accepted pets for reward. The walk around the parking lot was well mannered with minimal amount of pull, mostly for exploring side to side. The walk back to the kennel was calm and again showed no interest in the other dogs. He was returned with clip to slip leash. When he entered the kennel, he went right for the indoor kennel and took some coaxing to turn around to allow for leash release.

01-MAY-25 - Interact - 05/01/25 15:05- Orlando greeted staff with loose body posture and wagging tail. Observed that Orlando became alert with tail raise when one citizen and three children walked by his kennel. Staff members observed that Orlando lifted his lip when older citizen placed hand towards kennel door. Was able to leash and remove from kennel without any issues. Observed that Orlando pulls hard on leash when walked. Upon entering the yard, Orlando cruised the yard and did not pay much attention to the staff members in the yard. He did walk over and solicit attention by body leaning into staff member’s legs. He allowed all petting from both staff members with loose body posture. Orlando became hyper fixated on dog that was walked by yard. Was able to walk back to the kennel without any issues. Used “clip to slip” method to remove leash. MS

01-MAY-25 - Interact - Pt was excited, waiting at kennel door, easily leashed and ran out, tried to get close to dog next door, pulled very hard on leash, easy to get on scale but very wiggly. Took treats well, pulled on leash back to kennel, ignored civillians near by, easy to remove leash with clip to slip. AC

29-APR-25 - Observed - 04/29/25 13:00 When MB, an unfamiliar staff member was putting a frisbee on Orlandos' kennel, he fixated on MB and began muzzle punching the fence and barking. MB backed away and CR, a familiar staff member approached, and Orlandos' body posture loosened up. He then looked back at MB and started pacing and muzzle punching again. Both staff returned to the kennel later and he had the same reaction. -CR

28-APR-25 - Interact - 04/28/25 09:29: PER VOLUNTEER When volunteer approached Orlando's kennel he was waiting at the door with loose body posture. Volunteer had no issue leashing Orlando as they used a treat while doing so. While walking through the kennels he did moderately pull on the leash but did not react to any dogs in passing.Once in the yard he didnt seem interested in toys, but did prefer treats and soliciting for attention. He had loose body posture & was playing in the garden & would often come up to solicit for treats and pets. He calmly walked to back to kennel with no issues. Volunteer used clip to slip per SMUFS; although showed no reactivity.

26-APR-25 - Foster - 04/26/25 09:45 Adventure Tail: Orlando was friendly upon meeting him the first time and we walked around for smells before getting into the car. He jumped in the back seat with one verbal prompt. During several car rides throughout the day, he alternated between sitting and laying down quietly in the back seat. At our first stop at Lettuce Lake, he jumped out of the car after a verbal prompt. Orlando really enjoyed the long hike and did great on the leash. He responds well to leash pressure training and walks gently. He knows sit, paw/shake, and lay down. Orlando takes treats very gently and after prompted to lay down, he showed his belly and solicited for pets. No issues petting him on his head, neck, back, chest, or stomach. We took another walk in the neighborhood and no issues passing other dogs or people along the way. Our last stop we went to Culver's for a pup cup. Orlando sat nicely, waiting for his treat. A bystander pet Orlando on the head and he gave her a "paw". He did great in the car ride back to the shelter. I walked him to his kennel. No pulling, reactivity to dogs or people, or issues unleashing. mw
