05-SEP-25 - Interact - 9/4/25 Per volunteer: Duke was bobbing his head, excited to come out. Otherwise leashed easily. He walked with a medium pull to the yard, easing up with more distance from kennels. He explored the yard; then came up for pets. I knelt down and he leaned on me, giving me “doggy kisses”. He enjoyed standing in the hose spray, turning to get all sides wet. He played more in the garden, rolling around in the grass and then sitting with me for more pets. He walked with a mild pull back to his kennel.

04-SEP-25 - Interact - Duke approached the door and allowed me to leash him fairly easy. He had a hard pull most of the walk and I had to put signifcant pressure on his leash to slow him down during the walk. He fought with one dog on the way through a kennel door but otherwise kept his distance and only occasionally pulled towards the kennels. He sniffed around Jagger for a bit before placing his head on my knee and looking up at me to solicit pets. Paced away a few times before consistently returning to my side and looking at me while sitting. Walked to door of Jagger on own accord and was very easy to leash. Had no issues returning him but required a strong two hands on leash to ensure he didn't drift too close to kennels. LR

19-AUG-25 - Foster - 08/19/25 15:52 Foster Note: Duke is doing really well in foster! He is a very chill dog and extremely gentle, though he can be a strong boy! He doesn't jump on furniture since it is not allowed in the foster home and respects it. Duke is learning good manners and is only given his food in his bowl so he doesn't beg for human food. When going for walks, he is encouraged commands such as 'wait', 'okay go' and 'leave it'. He is also being taught to 'wait' when the door is being opened and 'okay go' when ready to start walking. He is unbothered when seeing birds but he does enjoy chasing after lizards and squirrels. He is learning 'down' to discourage jumping on people, the counter, the bed, or anything he shouldn't be jumping on and is a work in progress for his manners, but is learning! He is unbothered by any strange or loud noises, and takes unexpected noises at home in stride. Duke is an affectionate boy, loves all food, house-trained, does well when left alone, and smart as can be with his dog puzzles!

10-AUG-25 - Interact - 08/07/25 Per volunteer: Duke (A2455580) was sleeping against the kennel door; woke him up to be leashed. He began bouncing on his paws; I talked quietly and waited for him to calm down. He started to grab the leash; so I removed it and told him to sit. I put it back in, saying “leave it” and was easily leashed. He exited the kennel and walked with a pull to the play yard. He played a little with toys, spending his time leaning against me as I knelt, soliciting pets and gently licking my face. We then went to the garden; where he explored and played, again stopping by for pets. He was gentle taking treats, sitting around the yard for me to take photos. We sat for a few minutes in the yard as I gave him pets. He walked with less pulling back to his kennel.

09-AUG-25 - Interact - 08/09/25 17:11 As staff walked up to the kennel, Duke was in the inside portion. Staff called him out and gave him a treat. Duke did try to push the door open with his muzzle as staff unlocked it, but staff waited a couple seconds and he stopped. He allowed staff to leash him with no issue. Coming out of the kennel, he immediately went to the neighboring kennel and pushed his muzzle into the kennel but was easily directed away. He walked with a slight pull to the yard. Duke sat for treats and took them okay if staff offered them with an open palm. Staff worked on him following and sitting for treats. He would eat treats out of the kiddie pool but wouldn't walk into the pool. Duke walked through the kennels with a slight pull and was easily to put back in his kennel and remove the leash. -TB

08-AUG-25 - Interact - 08/08/25 16:43 Meet & Greet with one adult male and one adult female. Duke had loose body and wagging tail when staff approached kennel. When staff pulled out key and began to unlock door, Duke got up his hind legs and leaned on door. Once door was opened, Duke became jumpy and also muzzle punched the lower opening. Duke bit the leash a few times during this interaction as well. As soon as staff placed leash successfully and allowed Duke to step out, he rushed out and lunged at all of his neighbors. Duke walked to the play yard with a moderate-to-strong pull. He solicited attention from everyone and allowed petting. Duke was fixated on staff's treat bag and constantly followed staff around. He seems to understand the sit command and is a bit mouthy when taking treats. Back at his kennel, he attempted on multiple occassions to dash to the inner kennel before leash was removed. -KR-

06-AUG-25 - Behavior - 08/06/25 16:30 Upon approach, Duke had loose posture at the front of the kennel. His neighbor (A2431216 Bashful), became reactive and Duke started barking and jumping at the door. He was mouthy with the leash but it was able to be put on after two attempts. He immediately pulled towards his reactive neighbor and started fence fighting when exiting. Once pulled away, he walked with a mild pull. He reacted to one other dog on the corner kennel that was very reactive and he had to pass by closely. With space from the kennels, he ignored the other dogs. In the yard, Duke had loose posture. He solicited attention often, allowed petting all over, leaned in for pets, licked CR, and climbed in CRs lap. He was not interested in toys. He sat for treats and was a little rough with them. He fixated on a dog in the neighboring yard at one point, pacing the fence and hard staring. The other dog did not come to the fence and Duke was able to be called away and diverted with petting. Duke reacted to the same dog in a corner kennel going back then entered his kennel without issue and was easily unleashed. -CR

29-JUL-25 - Behavior - 07/29/25 Duke was leash biting in the kennel but was able to be leashed by a volunteer. He was reactive to the other dogs in kennels when walking to and from the yard. In the catch pen, Duke began barking, muzzle punching the fence, and pacing when other dogs came over. He was put into a side yard by himself to calm down. Duke became more relaxed greeting female dogs at the fence so he was let into the yard with 2 female dogs after a couple minutes by himself. Duke was lowkey and greeted both dogs. With time, he relaxed when greeting a male dog through the fence and that dog was eventually let into the yard as well. Duke maintained the same behavior with all dogs in the yard. Due to his barrier reactivity and bite history, his playgroup encounter was conducted cautiously. -CR
