09-AUG-25 - Foster - 08/09/25 17:34 Adventure Tail: Rain is an absolute sweetheart who thrives on adventure and affection! We spent a wonderful day out, and she was the perfect companion. She's a fantastic co-pilot in the car, happy to either look out the window or just chill and relax. Our first stop was Starbucks, where she very gently enjoyed a pup cup. Then we hit the beach, and she had the best time walking along the shore and putting her paws in the water. Rain is a natural at fetch and loves to run alongside you. She also proved to be a pro at house training, always waiting to go potty on the grass during her day out. After a quick break, we headed to a park where she was incredibly calm and friendly around other people and children. Her sweet nature really shines through in new situations. She also did great meeting other dogs when we went to Pet Supermarket to pick out a new toy. Rain is an affectionate girl who quickly bonds with people and loves playtime and belly rubs. She's just waiting for a family to give her all the love she deserves. Anyone would be lucky to have this amazing girl in their home!

28-JUL-25 - Interact - 07/28/25 Rain greeted staff at the kennel door with a loose posture. She was easily leashed and pulled slightly past the neighboring kennels. Once in the yard she immediately allowed the staff member to pet her all over, and accepted belly rubs. She sat for treats and took them gently. Staff tossed her a stuffed toy and she proceeded to get the zoomies and run around the yard with it. She repeatedly returned it back to the staff member. CS

28-JUL-25 - Interact - 07/28/25 Rain was already out in a yard with the staff member when two adult citizens and two children wanted to meet her. She allowed them pet her all over. Rain climbed into the adult citizens lap and allowed them to rub her belly. She sat for treats and took them gently from the entire family. Rain was easily brought back to her kennel and unleashed without any issues. CS

25-JUL-25 - Interact - 07/25/25 15:48 Per volunteer: Rain was easy to leash and she walked well to the yard, ignoring all the dogs along the way. She engaged right away with the toys and both volunteers. She enjoyed playing games of tug and chase. She allowed for all pets from head to tail, but didn't stand still long for many! She knew how to accept treats gently. Toward the end of the visit, Rain rolled over onto her back for belly rubs. Rain was easy to return to and unleash in her kennel.

19-JUL-25 - Interact - 07/19/25 17:05 Rain was in her kennel with a loose body, and approached kennel door with wagging tail. She was easy to leash and walked to the play yard with no pull. Once in the yard, Rain actively played with two soft squeeker toys, alternating between them or attempting to hold both at once. She would carry them around, and play keep away from staff member. When staff held either squeeky toy, she was careful to not bite on the hand, instead waiting for the chance to grab the toy away from the hand, or waiting until it was offered or thrown. Rain dropped her toys when offered a treat, and would 'sit' for treats as well. After tiring, Rain was sitting by staff, soliciting pets. She was easy to leash and walked back to her kennel and unleashed with no issues. -GB

26-JUN-25 - Interact - 6/25/25 Per volunteer: Rain sat calmly and was easy to leash at the kennel door. She had no pull and was slightly interested in other dogs. In the yard, she immediately picked up a plush squeaky toy and carried it around, showing it to me and throwing it towards me at times. I threw some other toys, and she would fetch them all and start playing with them too. She was very calm throughout our time in the yard, playing with toys most of the time. Toward the end, she started to roll over for belly rubs and allowed petting all over. She then came and sat up against me to ask for butt rubs/pats. She took treats gently and was easy to return to her kennel.

07-JUN-25 - Medical - HEARTWORM POSITIVE (TEMPLATE) What is the medical issue? This dog was diagnosed with Heartworm disease at the shelter. Heartworm disease is caused by large worms that live in the heart, lungs, and blood vessels, causing lung disease, heart failure, and other organ damage. What has PRC done so far? This dog has begun treatment for this disease. A 30 day course of doxycycline will be completed, followed by a 30 day 'rest' period. If this dog has not completed meds prior to adoption, you should receive a prescription to fill at a pharmacy to obtain remaining doses. Two months after diagnosis, if healthy enough for treatment as determined by PRC veterinarians, your dog can receive injections to kill adult heartworms at the PRC. This injection is a medication called "Diroban" which is injected into the large muscles of the back. Two injections are given 24 hours apart, per FDA guidelines. This protocol kills about 90% of heartworms and is recommended for stage 1 and 2 heartworm disease. Alternatively, adopters can elect to pursue heartworm treatment with their veterinarian. Your veterinarian may recommend additional diagnostics prior to treatment, or may recommend a slightly different protocol. What can the adopter expect? This dog should receive heartworm prevention monthly year-round for the rest of the its life to prevent another infection. Next month's dose of prevention will be dispensed; you must follow up with your vet for continued prevention. Your pet should be retested 6 months after treatment for heartworm disease, and then yearly thereafter. Your vet may recommend additional diagnostics or treatments. All further care is the responsibility of the adopter. Comments: Heartworm treatment is not benign. Some pets may have adverse reactions to heartworm treatment, including swelling at the injection site, pain, and respiratory issues. In rare cases the dying worms in the bloodstream might fall apart and cause a thrombus (blockage of a blood vessel). If this happens your pet might have respiratory distress and could die. Any activities that cause panting or elevated heart rate can increase the risk of a thrombus. It is critical that your pet is crate rested for 6 weeks following treatment and is only allowed to go outside for short periods of time on a leash to urinate/defecate. A medical staff member will go over any questions you may have at discharge.
